What is the issue?
Having immigrated to the United States with her family, Esther Wells understands firsthand the hope that brings families here—and the fear that can arise when immigration enforcement is unpredictable or heavy-handed. She believes Montgomery County can uphold the law while treating every person with dignity, protecting due process, and maintaining trust between residents and law enforcement. Esther will work with federal authorities to ensure that violent and felony offenders are securely transferred from County custody while opposing enforcement practices that unnecessarily frighten families, traumatize children, or undermine public safety. Her approach is straightforward: protect the rights of law-abiding residents, focus law enforcement resources on those who pose a genuine threat to our communities, and hold violent criminals, drug traffickers, and gang members accountable regardless of immigration status. As County Executive, Esther will work to rebuild trust across every community while keeping Montgomery County safe, orderly, and respectful of civil liberties.
